a Presidency lunch
held in The Dining Room, Purchases, Chichester
 |
Portugal took over the EU Presidency from Germany
on 1 July this year, and we were delighted that the First Secretary at the Portuguese
Embassy in London, Senhor Israel Saraiva, accepted our invitation to
speak to us about issues handled by the Presidency during the second half of 2007. This
time we met on a beautifully sunny day at the western end of Sussex, in Chichester. The
restaurant was the Dining Room, in a beautiful Georgian building in North Street which
used to house the wine merchant Arthur Purchase & Sons (run by the same family since
1780 but sadly now no longer in business). |
