The European Movement

The European Movement was founded at the 1948 Congress of Europe by Sir Winston Churchill and other post-war leaders to bring about the economic, monetary and political union of Europe. In the 1950s and 1960s, the all-party European Movement led the “Britain in Europe” campaign and organised the massive “yes” vote in the 1975 referendum. It is an international organisation with offices throughout Europe which plays a significant role in both informing the general public throughout Europe about the process of integration and in lobbying for greater European unity.
