Newsletter September 2007
Summary of meeting of Sunday 9th
September
Sam formally thanked all those who helped so much at the Summer
Festival on Sunday 2nd September.
In particular thanks goes to Margaret and her daughter Amy for running the gate.
Please pass on any photos you have either to Richard (email above) or Chris Jones
for inclusion on the website (before 19th September please).
Some considerations for future events:
Only need to provide a small vegetarian alternative
(we had a lot left over)
The last minute change of mind over the offer of
food inclusive with the ticket price caused some confusion, but nothing too serious.
We need i/d badges. We will also investigate the
cost of making tee or polo shirts with the Society logo. Gizella offered to design a
suitable logo.
Some visitors found it difficult to find the
Paddock. Direction signs would have helped.
Also for the future: permanent poster site(s) in the Tourist Info Office, library and
Universities. Investigations to be made.
Holiday in Hungary? We have received
some information about guest house accommodation in Hungary, which you can see on the Message Board.
Meetings It was decided that for the
time being, we should have regular meetings on a Sunday on the last Sunday of every
month. So the next meeting will be on Sunday 30th September.
We would also have a committee meeting tagged on to the end (or beginning) of this,
although in future there will be a need to form sub committees such as education (for
language classes), cultural (for fund raising and events) and a development committee (to
produce a proper constitution and apply for charity status). Next meeting, Richard to
remember to bring along a laptop to view photos that Gabor has put on to CD.
Christmas event: Saturday 8th December. Have provisionally booked
the United Reformed Church hall in Lewes although other venues are still under
investigation.
We would like to lay on something in the early evening especially for children (Richard to
email Father Christmas) but we dont know
how many young children there are likely to be. This event will not be widely publicised
but will be open to members and their guests (+ those from IWIW). Therefore could all members please email Richard with the numbers of young
children who might be attending this event? The event will otherwise
consist of bringing along food to share, drink (especially Palinka!) and music and go on
into the evening.
2008: Sam has provisionally booked the
All Saints Centre in Lewes for the weekend of 12th 13th July. The idea is to have 2
distinct days music (we already have the Brighton Festival chorus) and literature
there are a number of distinguished Hungarian writers who we will invite.
Sam has also undertaken to investigate a suitable farm for a camping weekend (both he and
I know of suitable places locally).
