Newsletter ~ Autumn 2009

We would like to thank all who came to our Summer Festival on Sunday 20th September. Judging by the comments received, everyone had a really good time.

We were lucky with the weather and there was a lot to occupy the children as well as the grown ups

Jeannette and Amy worked hard and kept the children happy with face painting and other games. Thank you very much to them and to all those supporters, too numerous to name who helped out in setting up and clearing up afterwards. This is always greatly appreciated.

The stoolball match was great fun; we have heard that some of the Hungarian team enjoyed it so much that they want to join their local stoolball club.

Thank you to Gary Matthews for organising the game & Sharif Horthy for keeping score.

England won but only by 1 run !

The gulyás cooked in the giant bogrács pot also went down well with many going back for second or third helpings. The palacsinta were delicious too.  Thank you to Péter and his team from the White Swan in London for providing all the food. Imre’s music on the electric piano was superb too. The team from Waterloo Bonfire Society who ran the bar enjoyed themselves and took part in the stoolball on the England team (which helped the England team to score more runs).

We think that the occasion was a great success and good value for money but we would have been happy to have had a bigger turn-out. Although it is out in the country, we offered free taxi rides from Lewes station. However, it is possible that some people were put off coming because it meant a journey by train, or that the ticket price was too expensive. We no longer have a membership fee which means that everyone can come and we are fortunate that we receive very generous sponsorship which enables us to run our events which keeps our ticket prices much lower than they would be otherwise.

We would like to hold more informal meetings in the centre of Brighton and other large towns and are still looking for suitable places to meet. Please let us know what you think.
We would like to receive your views on this,
and suggestions for what we might do in the future.
